Brevort Township

Brevort Township includes the communities of Allenville and Moran, which are located approximately 13 miles northwest of St. Ignace off of M-123. Guests to the area will find a Post Office (49760), gas station, and dining.  Nearby Brevoort Lake is a summer hotspot for locals to enjoy a day of tubing, water skiing, swimming, fishing or just relaxing on the sand of one of the large dunes located around the lake.

Interesting History and Facts about Brevort Township

Allenville, also known as “Alley Town” due to its founder J. Alley, was a station on the Detroit, Mackinac and Marquette Railroad less than one mile southeast of Moran.  Moran, which is not a part of Moran Township, was initially called “Jacob City” after the president of the German Land Company of Detroit.  Jacob was accused of fraud and William B. Moran loaned funds to buy additional land for the settlement, which was renamed to honor him in 1883.  For additional history and some local flavor, follow the link to http://www.moranmichigan.org/
