Moran Township

Moran Township is comprised of three communities, Brevort, Gros Cap and Ozark.  Brevort is a well kept secret as a vacation hideaway located on Lake Michigan, while Ozark is a largely uninhabited historic location.  Guests to Brevort will find lodging, camping and dining.  Gros Cap is a small community located on the shores of Lake Michigan, running along US 2.  School aged students living in the area are able to attend Moran Township School from Kindergarten through 8th grade. For more information on Brevort, follow this link.

Interesting History and Facts about Moran Township

Moran Township, confusingly is home to the community of Brevort and NOT the community of Moran, which finds its home in Brevort Township.  Ozark was the site for the charcoal kilns of the Martel Furnace Company and was a flag stop called “Johnson’s” on the Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railway. The name comes from the early French name for the place Aux Arc, meaning “at the bend.”
